Planning FAQs
Do you book flights and hotels?
I can book hotels for clients and help identify lodging that fits your itinerary, budget, location preferences, and travel style. As a Certified Travel Advisor, I can also help coordinate the hotel portion of your trip so it works smoothly with the rest of the plan.
I do not currently book flights directly, but I can research flight options and help you compare routes, timing, and pricing so you can book with confidence.
How far in advance should I reach out?
For most trips, I recommend reaching out at least 4–8 weeks in advance. That gives us enough time to thoughtfully plan your itinerary, research the best food and experiences, and secure hotel reservations before the best options disappear.
For peak travel seasons, holidays, international trips, or trips built around popular restaurants, festivals, or special events, 2–6 months ahead is even better.
What kinds of trips are the best fit for The Thoughtful Detour?
The Thoughtful Detour is best for travelers who want a trip to feel personal, well planned, and centered around really good food.
I’m especially well suited for:
-
weekend getaways and long weekends
-
food-focused city trips
-
couples escapes
-
road trips
-
train trips
-
holiday market and festival travel
-
trips built around restaurants, markets, cooking classes, regional specialties, and local food culture
-
travelers who want thoughtful recommendations without spending hours researching everything themselves
The best fit is someone who wants more than a checklist of attractions. You want to eat well, experience the character of a place, and come home with a few stories you definitely would not have gotten from a generic itinerary.
Do you plan for dietary needs or preferences?
Yes. Dietary needs and preferences are part of the planning process. Whether you are vegetarian, gluten-free, avoiding specific ingredients, managing allergies, or simply have strong likes and dislikes, I take that into account when recommending restaurants, markets, food tours, and cooking experiences.
For severe food allergies or medically necessary restrictions, I can help identify suitable options, but you should always confirm directly with the restaurant or experience provider before booking or dining.
How does pricing work for different detours?
Pricing depends on the type of trip, length, complexity, and how much planning support you need. A simple weekend getaway will cost less than a multi-city or highly customized trip.
I offer several planning options, from a focused consultation to a complete custom itinerary. After we talk through your trip, I’ll recommend the level of service that makes the most sense and provide clear pricing before any planning begins.
For more complex trips, special events, or highly detailed food-focused itineraries, pricing may be customized based on the amount of research and coordination involved.
